Description
Racingline Performance Intercooler System – VWR14G700
The Racingline VWR14G700 is a direct replacement front-mount intercooler designed for MQB-platform vehicles. It tackles a well-known weakness of these cars: the standard intercooler struggles to cope with sustained high loads, leading to heat soak and noticeable power loss when driving hard or after tuning upgrades.
By using a much larger, more efficient core, this upgrade keeps intake air temperatures (IAT) consistently lower. Cooler air means denser air entering the engine, which helps the ECU deliver full power lap after lap, run after run, without the cool-down periods the factory unit needs.
What it does
An intercooler is the radiator-like part that cools the hot, compressed air coming from the turbo before it enters the engine. The hotter that air gets, the less power the engine can safely make. The factory intercooler on MQB cars is undersized for performance use, so once it heats up, the ECU pulls timing and reduces boost to protect the engine. The Racingline unit holds its cool far better, keeping performance consistent.
Key features
- Maximum core size: a large ‘plate and bar’ core with tall internal tubes for high boost flow and excellent heat dissipation.
- Optimised internal design: fin density, core dimensions, and pipe flow have been developed through extensive testing to balance cooling against pressure drop.
- Cast end tanks: smooth, cast aluminium end tanks reduce turbulence and ensure even airflow across the full depth of the core.
- Race-proven: developed and tested under sustained high-load conditions, suitable for road, track, and tuned applications.
The development goal
Simply fitting a bigger intercooler is not always the answer. A larger core can increase pressure drop and turbo lag if not designed carefully. Racingline’s focus was on finding the ideal balance between maximum cooling and minimum pressure loss, so you gain the cooling benefit without sacrificing throttle response.
Who it suits
This intercooler is suitable for popular MQB-platform performance cars, including the VW Golf 7 GTI and R, Audi S3 and TTS, SEAT Leon Cupra, and Skoda Octavia vRS (2.0 TSI engines). It is a worthwhile upgrade at every stage of tuning, from a stock car driven hard to fully Stage 2+ builds.
